iPhone Ringtone Directions

In these directions, you will learn how to make a ringtone for iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch using the free pre-installed app GarageBand. These steps will help you set a ringtone on an iPhone using the updated GarageBand layout for 2020. You can set any song as a ringtone.

If you want to set a custom ringtone on iPhone without iTunes on a computer, then here is the solution. You need the GarageBand app, which is free and comes pre-installed from App Store. Now follow these steps:

1. Open the GarageBand app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.
2. Tap on the plus sign (+) in the top right corner.
3. Tap on Audio Recorder.
4. Tap on the 3 broken lines in the top left corner.
5. To avoid hearing the annoying clock tick sound in your ringtone, tap on the blue triangle icon to turn it off.
6. Tap on the plus sign (+) in the top right corner.
7. Tap on the circular loop icon in the top right corner.
8. Tap on the Files tab in the center at the top.
9. Locate the mp3 file that you want to convert into a ringtone.
10. Tap on and hold the mp3 file and drag it onto the empty section in GarageBand.
11. Drag the file to the far left side of the iPhone screen. Doing this will ensure that the ringtone starts from the beginning and that there is no silence when the ringtone begins ringing.
12. Tap on the inverted triangle icon in the top left corner of the screen.
13. Tap on My Songs.
14. Now you're back to the Files app layout. Here you will see 2 different sections at the bottom of the screen, Recents and Browse. If you select Recents, then you need to long-press on My Song then tap on Share. If you select Browse, then tap on Select in the top right corner.
15. Tap on My Song, which is the default file name.
16. Tap on the share icon (a square with an arrow pointing up) in the left bottom corner.
17. A new menu will appear. Tap on Ringtone in the center of the screen.
18. If a pop-up appears, tap on Continue.
19. Rename the ringtone if you want. I suggest the original song name with "ringtone" at the end.
20. Tap on Done in the bottom right corner, then tap on Export in the top right corner.
21. A pop-up will appear. Tap on "Use sound as..."
22. Tap on "Standard Ringtone," then tap on Done in the top right corner.
23. Now go to the Settings app and tap on Sounds & Haptics. Tap on Ringtones, and here you will find your new ringtone. You can set your new ringtone for calls.
